Blocked Sinks

🌀 Drain Cleaning Guide

Over time, you may notice that your sinks begin to drain more slowly. This is typically caused by everyday build-up from toothpaste, hair, soap scum, and other residue.

If left unaddressed, these blockages can also lead to unpleasant odours coming from the drains.

🛠️ How Often Should You Clean Them?

We recommend cleaning your sink drains every 6 to 12 months as part of your regular preventative maintenance routine. This helps maintain performance and avoid any long-term issues.

📌 Note: This type of maintenance is the homeowner’s responsibility and is not covered under warranty.

🧪 Quick Option: Drain Cleaner Products

You can use a drain cleaning solution from your local supermarket or hardware store:

  1. Pour the cleaner down the drain.

  2. Follow with warm water as instructed on the product label.

  3. Allow it to sit for the recommended time to break down build-up.

This is great for light maintenance — but for a more thorough clean, follow the steps below.

🧰 Deep Clean: Step-by-Step Trap Cleaning

  1. Open your cabinet and remove any items around the pipework.

  2. Place a bucket underneath the trap (the U-shaped pipe under your sink).

  3. Put a container or rag directly under the trap to catch any water that may spill.

  4. Carefully loosen the connections at the top and bottom of the trap using your hand or a wrench.

  5. Remove the trap in one piece and tilt it into the bucket to empty the water inside.

  6. Take the trap outside and flush it with a garden hose.
Use a soft bottle brush or old toothbrush if needed to dislodge any debris.

  7. Once clean, reinstall the trap, making sure:

    • All seals are in place properly

    • The connections are tight (but not overtightened)

  8. Run your tap to refill the trap and check for leaks.

Tips for Best Results

  • Wear gloves to keep things clean and hygienic.

  • For bathroom sinks, cleaning is even more important due to hair and toothpaste build-up.

  • If you notice frequent blockages, consider using a hair trap in your bathroom basin to catch debris before it enters the pipes.
